You’ve seen Missouri Council of the Blind while driving on Kansas Expressway and heading to Wal-Mart, IHop or Buffalo Wild Wings. But have you ever considered visiting this charming little store?
There are so many incredible finds here. I absolutely love it and will be visiting more often. When I went in recently, they were decorated for Christmas! At the front of the store, I was greeted by tons of Christmas trees for sale and I’m considering going back for one.
Here’s an overview of all the things you can find:
Clothes. So many clothes. They hang them up on mannequins and they’re sorted pretty well. Haven’t bought clothes here before. But they have a lot of them.
CDs and CD-ROMs. Have you ever felt nostalgic and wanted to sit on your floor and listen to Michelle Branch’s exhilarating The Spirt Room? Or maybe you want to relive your childhood and play Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on CD-ROM? Maybe that’s just me? I didn’t have the chance to rummage through them too much. But I will someday.
Books. Wow, what an awesome selection. No need to wait on Beast to give you a library. Create your own with the inventory at Missouri Council of the Blind. Hardbacks. Paperbacks. They have them all.
Board games. The board games are located on top of the bookshelf. This looks like the best, gently-used selection of board games I’ve found thus far in the Springfield thrift community.
Art. They have a wide selection of art. I wanted these illustrations of dogs. Brb, experiencing immediate regret from these adorable dog illustrations.
Frames. Their frames are nicely organized on a bookshelf with lots of different sizes. Start framing some magazine collages, inspirational quotes or pictures of your best friends. Quit going to Target to buy expensive frames. So. Not. Worth. It.
Furniture. This is a great place to find gently-used wooden furniture and lamps. Don’t overlook it.
Luggage. Not sure if you’re a fan of this site called Pinterest or anything, but I’ve seen some cute photographs of vintage suitcases or DIY recycled suitcases. This would be a great place to purchase vintage suitcases and upcycle them for photos!
TVs. And they’re all on, playing the same show. It’s good to know they still work.
Shoes. Still looking for that perfect pair of penny loafers? I am too. They’re probably on one of the racks along these lime green walls.
Records. Perfect for decorating or listening purposes. They’re located right next to the cash register.
Missouri Council of the Blind is Missouri’s largest blind consumer organization in Missouri that helps people who are visually impaired. Proceeds from all items bought go to programs that help improve lives of the visually impaired through state and local programs. Missouri is one of the few states that offer a Blind Pension for visually impaired people. With that being said, Missouri Council of the Blind is a beneficial organization that offers one of the country’s only pension programs for the blind.
