Formerly known as DAV, Red Racks is a thrift store devoted to helping disabled Veterans in the Springfield area.
I will say, this is my go-to store. It’s near my house. They always have a new selection. I’m here at least once a week, if not, once every other week. Life is good at Red Racks on Glenstone.
Here’s an overview of what you can expect to find:
Clothes. Most of my clothes from thrift stores come from here. I’ve bought a dress originally from Francessca’s here and it was a magical day. You do have to rummage through the clothes, but the finds are certainly worth it. In the past, I’ve also found some quality graphic t-shirts, men’s flannel shirts, sweaters and bigger shirts to pair with high-waisted jean shorts. Buy your clothes here. The rummaging is worth it in the end.
Shoes. All of the shoes are in the back of the store facing the front of the store. The shoes are out of order and not organized super well. You’ll need a good eye to find shoes that are the perfect fit.
Bedding. There’s tons of bedding here on hangers. You’ll find blankets, comforters, pillows, etc. A great selection of bedding in the Springfield thrift community.
Toys. Lots of good, bigger plastic kid’s toys. There’s a Buzz Lightyear four-wheeler contraption thing and it looks mega cool. Go check it out.
Kitchen appliances. You’ll find so many kitchen appliances here. Used Keurigs, Crock-Pots, toasters, coffee pots and more. There’s also a fair amount of other used electronics here too.
Lamps. Brick Tamland’s heaven. He would be very satisfied with the number of lamps Red Racks offers. However, lights are always hit-or-miss when they’re used. Worst case scenario: You bring them home and they don’t work because of wiring or something. Unless you befriend an employee who will let you make sure the lamps work, I would steer clear.
Sewing Patterns. Not sure if there are a lot of sewers or young Christian Sirianos out there, but Red Racks sells sewing patterns in bulk. I can’t sew to save my life, sadly.
Fake flowers and baskets. In my sorority, we have traditions for our new members that require buying baskets. I tell them to ALWAYS go to thrift stores for their basket needs because they are so dang cheap! Also, fake flowers are great to fill in empty vases or baskets. Win-win situation.
Red Racks on Glenstone is open Monday through Saturday, 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. and Sunday, 10 A.M. to 8 P.M. All Red Racks have monthly 50% off sales. Plan to go then for even cheaper items!
